lake volta ghana

Contained behind the Akosombo Dam, Lake Volta is a large man-made lake with a surface area of over 8500 square kilometers. The dam, which was completed in 1965, provides electricity for the majority of Ghana, and even exports to Benin and Togo as well. The water remains warm year-round and is the home to a larger number of fish species. The lake is popular with tourists, as you can take a cruise around the beautiful lake, with some stopping at the island of Dodi.
