Conakry Grand Mosque

The Grand Mosque in Conakry is the largest mosque in Subsaharan Africa with capacity for 12 500 worshippers, 2500 places on the upper section for women, and 10 000 places for men on the section below. It is well worth a visit and when you do, try to find a guide that can make the visit even more interesting. The mosque was build during the era of Sekou Toure and was opened in 1982. In the surrounding gardens you also find the Camayenne Mausoleum with the tombs of Samori Ture, Sekou Toure and Alfa Yaya.
